Cripple Creek, Colo.—A lease from the Stratton Mining and Milling Company on the Proper mine and the Chicago and Cripple Creek tunnel for the Globe Hill Mining Company has been secured by Al Konselman and considerable prospecting work is now under way on the property.
All operations are being carried on through the Chicago tunnel and the present objective is to raise from the tunnel level to connect with the present stopes on the Proper property.
At a point two thousand feet from the portal of the tunnel a drift is now being driven in a northeasterly direction under the Proper mine, on Globe Hill. The drift is now approximately 125 feet from the main tunnel and present plans call for continuing this for another 50 feet.
Then a crosscut, approximately 25 feet long will be driven and from this point a 130 foot raise should connect with the south end of No. 3 stope of the Proper mine, according to Konselman. This stope was last worked by Dick Tremayne in 1947 and at that time has some excellent values.
Konselman pointed out that the work was being carried on through the Chicago tunnel in order to get under the ore of the Proper and make it possible to mine the property less expensively. When this stope was worked from the Proper shaft it was necessary to handle the ore four times but working through the tunnel it will be dropped to the tunnel level and trammed to the portal for shipment.
Surface buildings at the portal of the tunnel consist of a change room, compressor house and ore bins. Tram trains used in the 2,000 foot ore are powered by a Universal Tramaire motor. Harry Allen is superintendent of the property.

Stratton estate lessees, operating through the Globe Hill or Chicago tunnel, have opened a good grade of mill-ore and are shipping to the Portland mill.

Cripple Creek—A gradual improvement in the grade of ore is becoming noticeable in block 102 of the Stratton estate on Globe hill and returns of almost $40 to the ton are being obtained.
The vein is better than 3 ft. wide, and is being worked at a depth of 400 feet. Selig and Mills, leasing on the property, are conducting operations through the Chicago and Cripple Creek tunnel.

Cripple Creek.—Barrett & Company have made a big strike in the Gold Pass claim of the Stratton estate. The vein is 2 ft. wide and runs 7 oz. per ton. The lessees are operating through the Chicago and Cripple Creek tunnel.

Successful Leasing.
Ore is being shipped from the Fairview property, block 102 of the Stratton Estate, to the Golden Cycle mill at Colorado City. The first shipment ran $17 per ton, the ore being obtained from the 600-ft. level of the mine. Operations are being carried on through the Chicago & Cripple Creek adit, the workings being 2,000 ft. from the entrance. Raising is in progress on the vein, which averages 4 ft. wide, and better returns are expected from the next shipment.

That the late Mr. Stratton had abundant faith in the future and believed in deep mining was evidenced by the amount of work he did on Bull and other hills.
An example is the work of extending and completing the Chicago-Cripple Creek tunnel which was started up again and carried forward. The main tunnel, at the point it connects with the Plymouth Rock shaft, is 4,170 feet, while the laterals extended off total to 3,520 feet.

Globe Hill Gold Mine.
3953. (Ann Arbor, Mich.) Please give me, through the columns of your valuable paper, information in regard to the Globe Hill Gold Mining Company, of the Cripple Creek district. I desire to know particularly in regard to the value of their holdings, and also as to what has been done in the way of development of their properties.

Ans.: The property of the company consists of three claims (Happy Boy, Foggy and Good Enough), which are immediately surrounded by and practically abutt on several producing properties.

The workings of the three patented claims of the Gold Hill Consolidated Mining Co. consist of half a dozen shafts from 10 to 50 feet deep, and half a dozen drifts upon the veins cut by the Chicago tunnel, which intersects these claims. Such work has been mostly done by lessees, and there are lessees now at work.

The company is capitalized at $1,500,000 in $1 shares, all the shares having been issued and there being none in the treasury. The company does not owe anything.

Nearly 1,200,000 shares are held in what is known as the Globe Hill Pool, of which the secretary of the Globe Hill C. M. Co., Mr. H. A. McIntyre, is trustee. About 250,000 of the remaining shares are owned in Paris, France, leaving only about 25,000 shares in individual hands in the United States.
The stock has never been listed or quoted on any stock exchange. The price at which the shares are held by the Globe Hill Pool is 10 cents, and they are now selling pool shares in Canada at ten cents.

The 1897 production was approximately for the Chicago-Cripple Creek 1,000 tons.

I understand the company owns the patented claims, Foggy, Good Enough and Happy Boy, on Globe Hill, about 18 acres. What is the stock worth?

Ans.: The property of this company consists of the three above mentioned patented claims, which are immediately surrounded by and practically abut upon the following shipping and dividend paying properties: Half Moon, Geneva, Abe Lincoln, May Queen, El Paso Gold King, Lelia and C. O. D.
The workings on the three patented claims of the Globe Hill Consolidated Mining Co. consist of half dozen shafts from ten to 50 feet deep, and half a dozen drifts upon the veins cut by the Chicago tunnel, which intersects claims. The secretary states that a French mining engineer, Prof. Regnaud, was recently out there, and reported to the French investors, who own considerable of the stock, that the management ought to be at work, and that if the company would expend $20,000 in machinery and opening up the mine, it could be made a great producer and dividend payer.

To Try a New Process.
The Chicago and Cripple Creek company, which is driving the big tunnel into Globe hill, has let a contract for the building of a new process tunnel near the mouth of their tunnel in Poverty gulch, says the Denver Times.
The new process is the discovery of William A. Koneman, formerly connected with the Durango smelter and the Rico Aspen mine.
The mill will cost $50,000 and will have a capacity of 100 tons per day. Ore mining as low as $5 per ton can be treated profitable.
There is one vein of $10 ore in the Chicago and Cripple Creek tunnel which is forty-five feet in width. This immense body of low grade ore is very refractory, but the patentee of the new process is confident that it can be treated successfully.
