Info Title:
Abe Lincoln Developing Better Than Ever After January 1 Fire
The Abe Lincoln mine in Poverty gulch is developing better than it has been at any time since the fire that destroyed the shaft-house on the night of Jan. 1. Five machines are at work breaking ore of good grade from the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, and two machines are engaged in driving cross-cuts southwest on the 700-ft. level.
graphic for visual presentation of text A good vein of ore showing sylvanite has been encountered in a winze sunk from the 7th level to a depth of 100 ft., but at that point water has handicapped operations. A new spray washer with a capacity of 100 tons daily has recently been installed, and all of the coarse rock is being run through. The slimes, which have heretofore been wasted, have added considerably to the gold output of the property.
graphic for visual presentation of text An elevating tram has also been completed, which lifts the waste from the washer to a point about 40 ft above the old dump level, which obviates the difficulty before experienced in obtaining dump-room. All of the four sets of lessees on the property are reported as being in ore of good grade, and the mine is producing a car of smelting grade ore a day.

Bob Womack Donated Claim Location
During the years 1890 and 1891 Bob Womack had between thirty and forty locations in the camp. Generous to a fault, whenever one of his friends was looking for a location, Bob would present them with a claim, and thus it came to pass that some of the best properties in the district passed through his hands without his having received the slightest benefit therefrom.
graphic for visual presentation of text Among the properties upon the claims which the generous prospector gave away were such as the Kittie M., the Lone Star, the Abe Lincoln, the C. O. D., the Rebecca, and dozens of others on Bull hill and Battle mountain.

Commander Removes Troops
Denver, Dec. 16.—A Republican special from Cripple Creek last night says:
graphic for visual presentation of text All troops which have been stationed at the Abe Lincoln property in Poverty gulch were withdrawn to-day by order of Colonel Verdeckberg, the commander of the National Guard in this district. It is believed by the military commander and his advisers that the conditions no longer require military protection. The non-union men working can fully protect themselves and have so declared themselves.
