Rattler Lessees Burgdorf and Associates Found High Grade at 20 Feet
Cripple Creek—The first granite formation found on Raven hill was encountered in the Rattler property when a strike of high grade ore was made last week.
The rich mineral was opened by M. J. Burgdorf and associates at a depth of only 20 ft., and the vein, which is a trifle less than 1 ft. in width, gives assay returns of from $110 to $800 in gold to the ton.
Fifty feet more sinking will be done and when a depth of 70 ft. is reached the lessees will upraise on the vein.

Milliken Lease on Rattler Not in Ore
HAS NOT MADE A STRIKE
—————————
Rise in Stock on Reported Strike not Justified.
—————————
MR. MILLIKEN SPEAKS
—————————
REPORT THAT HE IS IN A GREAT BODY OF ORE DENIED BY THAT GENTLEMAN.
—————————
Lessee Milliken on the Rattler last evening most emphatically denied that he was in ore in his lease, and states that the sudden rise in the price of the stock was caused by erroneous reports being given out in Colorado Springs by people who are holding large blocks of the stock.
Last Saturday Mr. Milliken closed down and for the rest of the life of his lease says that he will positively not do any more sinking. All the work he will do in the future will be drifting. He states that all reports of a strike in his lease are absolutely without foundation.
The shaft is now 165 feet down, and the seam of talc followed, which is but one-quarter of an inch wide, has not varied at all from the time it was encountered, down to the present depth. Five tons of the ore run over a quarter mesh screen only gave returns of $7.60 to the ton in gold.
A careful examination of the property was made yesterday by people who have recently acquired large blocks of the stock, and their examination was anything but bright. Lessee Milliken denies that there is any ore in sight and says it is purely a stock job.
