graphic for visual presentation of text Cripple Creek, Sept. 1.—Bull Hill was the scene of a most daring robbery at an early hour this morning, as a result of which the robbers got away with several thousand dollars worth of valuable ore.
graphic for visual presentation of text About 3 o'clock this morning, five men went up to the shaft house of the Orphan Boy mine. Some rich ore had been recently taken from the mine, and this was sacked and lying on the floor of the shaft house.
graphic for visual presentation of text The men, who were masked, approached the house quietly, and those who were employed heard nothing until the door was thrown open, and they were covered with guns and revolvers.

These four were ordered to throw up their hands, which they did, and while three of the party of the hold ups continued to keep them covered, the others proceeded to carry away the packs of valuable ore lying about.
graphic for visual presentation of text Richard Andrews, night foreman, was in the mine when the robbery occurred, but did not hear of it until 15 minutes after the thieves had gone.

graphic for visual presentation of text The news of the robbery was at once communicated to officers, and a search instituted. When seen this morning, Mr. Andrews could not estimate the value of the ore taken, as it had been loosely sacked, but it is very valuable.
graphic for visual presentation of text Later in the day it was ascertained from Manager Lartman, of the mine, that the ore secured amounted to ten 50-pound sacks of high-grade sylvanite. Its total value was $4000. No clues has yet been discovered of the robbers.
