Union Gold Mining Co. Inquiry
Union and Colorado Mining Stocks.
4718. (Schenectady, N. Y.) Please inform me regarding what you think of the Union gold mines as an investment? What gold mine stock do you consider the best for an investment? What is a good low priced stock for a speculation?
Ans.: The Union Gold Mining Company owns 35 acres of patented ground on Bull Hill, which has produced $950,000 and paid over $84,000 in dividends. The entire property is being worked under lease at royalties ranging from 30 to 50 per cent. The company is capitalized at 1,250,000 $1 shares. The stock is very favorably regarded in Colorado, and was quoted at about 44c. on January 19.
It would be invidious to single out one particular gold stock as the best for an investment, but, among others, may be mentioned Elkton, Isabella, Portland, Vindicator, Gold Coin, etc. The same remark applies as to a good low-priced stock for a speculation, as there are a number of about equal merit, on the best selection from which probably no two equally well informed persons would exactly agree.

Pike's Peak Accident Kills Michael McIntyre
FELL DOWN THE STOPE
—————————
Michael McIntyre Loses His Life.
—————————
DROPPED A HUNDRED FEET
—————————
HIS PARTNER HAD LEFT HIM FOR A TIME
IT IS SUPPOSED A ROCK BECAME LOOSENED AND FELL ON HIM
INSTANTLY KILLED.
—————————
Mike McIntyre, a miner employed on the Union company's Pike's Peak shaft, was found dead yesterday morning at the bottom of the stope, 100 feet below where he was working.
It is not known just how he met his death, but it is thought that a rock fell on him and knocked him off the platform.
McIntyre was working with a partner in a stope above the first level. His partner had occasion to leave him for a time, and on his return found him lying dead at the bottom.
Appearances seem to be indicate that he was picking down the loose rock after the shots, and a big rock was loosened and fell on him.
The platform on which he was standing was broken, as was also the platform below on which he was throwing the ore as he took it down.
He had fallen a sheer 100 feet, in the bottom of the second level, and life was crushed out of him. He was stone dead when they picked him up.
McIntyre was a native of Nova Scotia, and was of Scotch descent. He roomed at Altman, just opposite the postoffice. He had no family. Being a member of the Altman Miners' union, that organization will have charge of the funeral ceremonies.
