Mr. James F. Beattie is Superintendent for the Favorite
Mr. James F. Beattie, M. E., formerly manager of the McFerran coal mines, at McFerran, Colo., has been transferred to the position of superintendent and mining engineer of the Favorite Gold Mining Company, at Altman, Colo.
The Favorite property is located on Bull Hill, near the city of Cripple Creek, and right in the famous gold belt of that region. The president of the McFerran Coal Company, of which Mr. Beattie was formerly manager, is also president of the Favorite Gold Mining Company. Mr. Beattie informs us that the Favorite mine produced about 175 tons of ore for the month of October, the net value of which was about $7,000. Three grades of ore are shipped, the values per ton running from $20 to $90.
Mr. Beattie was made superintendent of the property early in September, and four weeks after his appointment the stock of the company increased fully 100 per cent. in value. Previous to going to Colorado, Mr. Beattie's mining experience, some thirty-four years, had been exclusively in coal mines, and he attributes his success in metal mining as largely due to the knowledge gained through the Metal Mining Course of The Correspondence School of Mines.
