On the fifth level of the Modoc, at a point 170 ft. north of the shaft, a vein 4 feet wide, with values uniform across that distance, has been opened and drifted upon over 40 ft.

A rich ore-shoot has been opened on the ninth level of the Modoc mine, between Bull hill and Battle Mtn. It does not exceed a foot in width, although most of the vein is 4 ft. between walls, yet is far more valuable than the full-sized vein. A 30-ton shipment has been sent out by the general manager, F. H. Frankenberg, to the smelter at Pueblo.
The Modoc mine is operated both on company account and under the leasing system, but the new strike was made by miners in the employ of the company.

Modoc Sinking
Modoc—Work has again begun sinking the projected 1,000-foot shaft. Operations commenced at a point 270 feet from the collar of the shaft, which depth had been attained when work was suspended three years ago.
Stations will be cut every 100 feet, but no lateral work will be done until the 1,000-foot point is reached. It is expected that about one year will be required to sink this three-compartment shaft.

Modoc Rich Strike Officially Confirmed
Denver, July 8
The rich strike made by the Modoc Mining and Milling Company, of Cripple Creek, at the seventh level of the main shaft, in the saddle between Battle mountain and Bull hill, on the Ocean View claim, has been officially confirmed by Superintendent F. H. Frankenburg, Jr.
Crosscutting east from the main Modoc vein, a new vein has been encountered northeast of the shaft and a drift 6 ft. wide has no walls in sight.
A rich talc streak about 6 in. wide was found near the center of the drift containing both rusty gold and sylvanite.
South of the shaft at the 950-ft. level, rich ore is being developed on the Clara vein, and the week's shipment of six cars has been ordered to the Pueblo smeltery.
