Little Clara Ore Shoot As an illustration of the possibilities in the way of discovery of new ore bodies above water level, I will mention the "Little Clara" ore shoot, belonging to the Work Mining Co. This ore shoot was discovered about two years ago and has since produced about $1,500,000. The ground was supposed to be reasonably well developed by workings done years before.
A shaft had been sunk directly over the ore body to a depth of 135 ft., and a drift near the bottom driven to within 25 ft. of the top of shoot. The Callie shaft had been sunk to the depth of 480 ft, missing the westerly edge of the ore shoot only 30 ft. to 40 ft., and the Ophelia tunnel was driven directly under it and about 40 ft. below.

It is proposed to sink a shaft to cut the big ore-shoot being worked by Marsh, Hodges & Co. on the south end of the claim. Eleven air-drills of the buzzer type are being run on the latter lease.
Good ventilation of the workings is obtained from a connection with the Callie shaft, and also from a No. 8 blower operated by a 15-h.p. electric motor, which is started up after blasting. Three shifts are running, as the production is being forced owing to the expiration of the lease next March, a renewal being uncertain. In the neighborhood of 75 tons per day is being shipped.

One of the leases that has produced so well is that of F. B. Marsh and John Hodges on the Little Clara claim of the Work Co.'s property on Raven hill. Operations are conducted through the Moffat tunnel at a distance of over 2,000 ft. from the mouth.
The lessees have made a profit of approximately $500,000. Soon after rich ore was struck by them, suit was brought by E. J. Knight, of Colorado Springs, for an 11/32 interest in the profits; he lost his case in the District Court, and has now appealed to the United Suites Court at Denver.

Incorporated & Runs Aerial Tramway From Ophelia The Tunnel Tramway Co. has been incorporated, and is now operating an aerial road between the portal of the Ophelia tunnel and the railroad tracks of the Florence & Cripple Creek railway. The rich find of ore on the Little Clara claim of the Work company is not only one of the biggest strikes in the district but is proving to be one of the greatest discoveries ever made in Cripple Creek, says the correspondent of the Denver News.
Hodges, Marsh & Co., who are leasing the property now, have a body of ore eighteen feet in width and the lowest assays thus far obtained have been not less than two ounces in gold to the ton.
Hodges said to-day that he had more than $500,000 worth of ore in sight, that six machines were at work and that he intended to increase the ore breaking force.
The large vein has been proven for a distance of 110 feet and is now being worked at a depth of 500 feet and at a point exactly one mile from the portal of the Ophelia tunnel.
After a round of shots this afternoon assays were taken from a portion of the big vein and returns were given of from $55 to $107 in gold to the ton.
