From matters of record at the office of the county recorder:
Thomas G. Willis to James B. Carnes, contract and option—Dated May, 29, '95; option for 60 days to buy first party's interest in the War Eagle, Black Bell, Black Bell No. 2, Fore Paw and Noble county lode mining claims, all in the cripple Creek mining district; also all his interest in a school section, for $800000.
On back in consideration of $50 option extended for 10 days and at said time, upon payment of $75 more, have same extended 10 days and upon payment then of $75 more, have same extended to — 1, '95.

When the United States geological survey of the Cripple Creek district was made in 1894, the deepest shaft in the district did not exceed 350 feet.
That the report of the survey did not attempt to cover a greater depth, an idea gained prevalence in some quarters that the value would be found only in the surface workings. This feeling has been wholly controverted by the large shipments of high grade ore which are now being made from the deepest workings.
On the War Eagle, Hull City Placer, Bluebird, Stratton's Independence and other properties, shafts have reached a depth of 1200 feet and more. The greatest depth so far reached is about 1500 feet.

The ore bins of the War Eagle on Bull Hill, are congested with ore, and at least 200 tons additional are broken ready to hoist.

The men to whom Darnell & Co. subleased are shipping about two cars weekly of a medium grade of ore (1 oz. per ton).
This ore is mined in a drift at a depth of 120 ft.

War Eagle.—Lessees still continue to ship good ore from this property. Assays are said to run from four to seven ounces to the ton. A rich ore body was opened up on the 1,000-foot level of this property, rich ore being found on the south drift about 700 feet from the main shaft.
The strike is particularly gratifying as being made at the great depth referred to.

WAR EAGLE AND RAMONA CLAIMS.—Lessee Anderson and associates are reported to have opened up a new body of high-grade ore on the War Eagle and Ramona claims.
A three-foot vein was encountered at a depth of 220 feet, a short distance from the main shaft. It is said that the ore assays six ounces to the ton.

War Eagle.—D. O. Darnell, lessee on this Bull hill property, shipped a carload of ore last week which is expected to give returns of $25 per ton. The ore is treated at the Economic mill.

Cripple Creek.—Thirty-two cars of ore of an average value of $30 to the ton were shipped during the month of May. Two loads a day have been going out from this property. The ore is being mined from a 40-foot vein at a depth of 380 feet.
Over 30,000 tons now are in sight in the large stope from the third level.

War Eagles.—This property, which is under lease to J. O. A. Carper, is sending out ore at a rapid rate. The high grade material is being shipped to smelters, while ore of the lower grade is being treated at the Homestake Company’s cyanide plant.

Denver.—Lessee J. O. A. Carper, operating the War Eagle of the Stratton estate on Bull hill, is shipping 8 to 10 carloads of ore each week, carrying an average of $30 per ton.
The vein at the 150 level varies from 1 to 4 ft. in width and yields from 1 to 3 ounces.

D. O. Darnell, acting as agent for Sylvester J. Hervey of Colorado Springs, has leased the War Eagle claim on Bull hill to County Clerk and Recorder Thomas T. Bernard and Deputy County Clerk Josh Portis, who are associated with other men of the district.

The cross-cut from the 1200-ft. level carried from the Blue Flag to the Moffat tunnel for air-connection on the War Eagle property to the north, has passed through ore for a distance of 70 ft.
The vein is reported as being two feet wide and samples taken by the War Eagle Consolidated company gave returns of $24 in gold and 13 oz. silver per ton.
No work will be done on this vein until the tunnel connection is made and ventilation obtained.

John W. Sheafer, Judge of the District Court, this week denied the application of L. T. Gray, claiming interest in the Moffat tunnel property, for a writ of injunction to prevent connection with the tunnel from the Blue Flag mine workings.
The War Eagle Consolidated Mines Co., the Blue Flag Gold Mining Co., the Moffat Tunnel & Transportation Co., and Hildreth Frost, attorney of this city {Cripple Creek], were named as defendants.
It was alleged in the complaint that damage would result "through the filling of the tunnel with bad air" if connection were permitted.

The War Eagle company is cross-cutting from its 1200-ft. level of the Blue Flag shaft on Raven hill to connect with the tunnel, in accordance with a contract with the Blue Flag Gold Mining Co., of which corporation Tully Scott of the Supreme Court of Colorado is president.
With connection made, ventilation will be afforded to the Blue Flag and War Eagle mines as well as to the tunnel.

The War Eagle Consolidated Mines Co. has erected an ore-house near the shaft of the Blue Flag company on Raven hill and is hoisting ore from the shoot on War Eagle territory opened up at the Moffat tunnel level, through the Blue Flag shaft.

Ore will be shipped from the War Eagle workings at the Moffat tunnel level, during the ensuing week. The ore will be hoisted through the Blue Flag shaft.
Development at the 1200 and 1400-ft. levels of the Blue Flag continues.

The Moffat tunnel, connecting with the Blue Flag workings of the War Eagle Consolidated Mines Co., is to be extended north-east through the Sheriff, thence to the Amanda and War Eagle. A cross-cut will also be carried from the Blue Flag through the Bogart and Happy Year holdings of the War Eagle company.
