Info Title:
Caledonia with Tremendous Strike
A tremendous strike has been made in the Caledonia lode, situated about one-half mile from Cripple Creek. It is nicely located so far as pay mines go, the nearest being the Anaconda, about one-quarter to one-half mile away. The mountain on which this claim is located does not appear to be named but is a promontory of Gold Hill. The present owners are the H. H. Tompkins Hardware company of Cripple Creek, H. Parsons and J. Morris Finn.
graphic for visual presentation of text A sample of twelve sacks were sent to Denver for treatment and were found to run $400 in gold and four ounces of silver to the ton. The vein is from 50 to 100 feet in width between granite walls. Through this big vein runs small streaks of quartz, from which the high grade or smelting ore was taken. The whole vein, on repeated assays, has shown values of from $8 to $40 per ton, without any sorting.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Caledonia gives promise of being one of the biggest discoveries ever made in the camp.

graphic for visual presentation of text—PRESIDENT CHAPIN MADE THE SALE.
graphic for visual presentation of text—————————
graphic for visual presentation of text A deal was consummated yesterday by which the Gold Geyser mill, located in the gulch below the city, passed into the hands of the Caledonia Gold Mining company.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Gold Geyser has not worked except for a few days at a time on rare occasions for the past two years. It will now undergo a thorough overhauling at the hands of Superintendent Weicher, and will be used to continue experiments on the dump of the Caledonia mine.
graphic for visual presentation of text This dump is of great size, and is reputed to be of exceptional richness. At any rate, the owners have for years consistently refused to lease it, and some of the most expert dump pickers in the camp have tried to get a lease on it.
graphic for visual presentation of text The mill is located on the banks of the stream of Cripple Creek, less than half a mile from the mine, and with an excellent road connecting them. The location is an excellent one, either for the purpose of conducting experiments, or for enlarging the mill for the extensive treatment of ore, if such a step be found desirable.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Caledonia company was represented by Superintendent Weicher, while the Gold Geyser Mining and Milling company was represented by President C. C. Chapin.
graphic for visual presentation of text The company is a Chicago concern, while the Caledonia is owned in London.

graphic for visual presentation of text—————————
graphic for visual presentation of textCaledonia Now Has Its New Steam Plant and Mill Going.
graphic for visual presentation of text Manager Weicher yesterday started up his new plant of machinery on the new main working shaft on the Caledonia. He first steamed up the plant a few days ago, but a number of changes were found necessary, and no work was done at the time. Now it is all in good condition, and a force of men will be put to work on the shaft to-day.
graphic for visual presentation of text It is the intention to sink for 300 feet more before any crosscut is made to the vein. The shaft is now 70 feet deep, and a contract has been let for the work of putting it down to the desired depth. At that depth the shaft will be 18 feet from the vein, the ore chute having been located by the workings from the old shaft.
graphic for visual presentation of text The old Gold Geyser mill, recently purchased from the Gold Geyser company by Mr. Weicher, has also been started up, and while it is yet in the experimental stage, Mr. Weicher thinks it stands a show of proving a success.
graphic for visual presentation of text As has been stated in these columns, it is intended to handle the enormous dump of the Caledonia if it can be made to save the values.

Caledonia to Resume
CALEDONIA TO RESUME.
graphic for visual presentation of text It is rumored that the Caledonia mine will resume operations. The property was drowned out by water sometime ago and since then nothing has been done. A big pumping plant was installed but did not prove to be large enough to handle the great volume of water. At the time the water commenced to come in, a big vein of good ore was encountered.
