A New find of the Metal in the Eclipse Mine Causes a Sensation.
DENVER, Col., Oct. 31.—The past week has been a surprising one in the Cripple Creek gold camp, and at least one big discovery has been made.
The camp is all excitement over the wonderful strike made in the Eclipse mine yesterday.

The Eclipse is located in Requa Gulch, and has been a regular shipper for the last two months, averaging about a car load a week. The returns from these shipments have averaged over $100 a ton, but there was nothing in the character of the ore to prepare the men who were taking it out for the wonderful stuff that was uncovered yesterday.

At a depth of 95 feet a vein of white talc and crystalized quartz was encountered, the vein apparently being about four feet in width. The ore is full of rusty gold, some of it being in large cubes, which even old miners pronounce the most wonderful display of free gold they ever saw.

There is much to indicate that this will be what expert mining men have been claiming all along—the greatest gold camp in the world.
There are now over 30 shipping mines, and the advent of the railroad will double the number.

There is much to indicate that this camp will be what experienced mining men have claimed all along—the greatest mining camp in the world.

Eclipse—The suit of Tietje vs. Mason is on trial at the District Court at Colorado Springs. This suit is brought by plaintiff to annul a bond and lease on the Eclipse mine, given the defendant for $5,000.
Plaintiff alleges that defendant knew of the existence of rich ore in the mine at the time, and took advantage of plaintiff's ignorance of that fact.

The Eclipse mine showed an excellent record last month. Three of the owners worked for twenty days, the gross result amounting to $3,694.99.

Lease is Secured on a Mine by One of the German Aristocracy and He will Begin to Pile Up Wealth.
Cripple Creek, Col., Dec. 16—On his recent visit to the camp Baron Von Richthofen secured a bond and lease on the famous old Elipse{Eclipse] property in Requa gulch for presentation to his London syndicate.
He takes the property on bond and lease in the sum of $100,000, making a liberal cash payment and distributing the balance over a period of fifteen months.
The property contains eight acres, and in addition two veins running parallel north and west through it is coursed on its south end by Moose vein.
Some of the richest ore that has ever been taken out in the camp came from the Eclipse vein, and among it was exceedingly rare specimens of crystalized gold.
A tunnel driven on the vein lost the ore and the property has been idle for months until recently E. R. Chew and his associates of Pueblo secured a bond upon it and incorporated the Eclipse Mining company to handle the mine. The baron secured his holding from this company.
A plant of machinery is to be put on it at once and the mine will be drained of the water that now fill two winzes sunk from the tunnel level for a distance of forty and ninety feet.
It is looked upon as one of the best properties in the district when worked upon a fair and systematic manner.

A couple of good strikes are reported on the property of the Sunset-Eclipse Gold Mining Company. Two streaks of ore have been opened which assay from $200 to $325 per ton. The ore shoot appears to be permanent, and if this proves to be the case, the lessees have a bonanza.

Steady shipments are now being maintained from the Sunset-Eclipse property located on Battle mountain, which are returning to the company $30 per ton in gold.
The vein from which this ore is coming was uncovered in a very shallow shaft, and the ore will undoubtedly improve in value with depth.

Investigation conducted on the Portland mine is to be pursued on the property of the Sunset-Eclipse Gold Mining Co., located on Squaw and Battle Mountains.

Sunset-Eclipse.—Lessee Keener has opened a good-sized body of ore on this property and is making regular shipments. It is said that the screenings average $45 to the ton, while the coarse material averages over one ounce to the ton. The ore is being extracted at a depth of eighty feet. It is expected to carry on more vigorous development in the future and increase the production.

Sunset-Eclipse.—The machinery plant which was recently damaged by fire is being repaired preparatory to the renewal of extensive work by E. S. De Golyer and associates of Boston.

Lessees have placed new machinery on the Sunset Eclipse, on the southwest slope of Battle Mountain.

Cripple Creek—Articles of incorporation have been filed by Fred L. Ballard, Frank Costello and W. S. Nicholls of Colorado Springs for the Keener Gold Mining Co., capitalized at $1,500,000. This corporation has acquired by purchase the Eclipse, Yellow Jacket, ColumbineColumbia, Kodak, Justice, Baby JuneBabey June and other properties, containing in all 38 acres.

The main shaft of the Sunset-Eclipse, formerly equipped with a modern plant, was destroyed by incendiaries during the great labor strike. A new equipment is to be purchased and active operations resumed.

A long-time lease has been given on the Eclipse mine on Battle Mtn. to James M. Wright, president and general manager of the Jo Dandy M. Co.
New buildings will be erected on the property to take the place of those destroyed by fire several years ago. Additional machinery will be installed.

Cripple Creek—J. W. Wright recently secured a long time lease on the main shaft and other workings of the Eclipse mine and adjacent territory on Battle and Squaw mountains. The mine buildings which were destroyed by fire about four years ago will be rebuilt and additional machinery purchased.

A two years' lease, expiring January 1, 1910, has been secured by James M. Wright, president and general manager of the Joe Dandy Mines Co., on the main shaft and workings of the Eclipse mine and territory adjacent thereto on Battle and Squaw Mtn., owned by the Keener Gold Mining Co.

Leasers on the Eclipse mine, which is owned by the Keener Gold Mining company, are now shipping regularly from a large body of milling grade ore.

The Eclipse mine appears to have an impervious water pocket of its own and has not been impacted by any of the drainage tunnels.

Keener—The company has blocked out its ground on Battle and Squaw mountains for leasing.

The Keener Gold Mining Co. has installed a new hoist and two 100-hp. boilers at its property on Battle mountain and is blocking out the ore preparatory to opening it for leasing.

Work will commence this week on the Eclipse mine of the Keener Gold Mining Co. on Battle mountain.

Within a few days the transfer of the property of the Eclipse Consolidated Mining Co., owning ground in Eclipse gulch, will be made to the El Oro Gold Mining Co.
It is declared that on this property the company will erect its low-grade mill for the treatment of the immense quantity of the medium-grade stuff which is found in the El Oro's estate.

The El Oro Mining & Milling Co. has issued a pamphlet dealing with its property and proposals for ore treatment. The Company owns 60 acres and has an option on 50 acres in the district. According to the report of R. L. Riggs, the best claims are on the north slope of Battle Mountain, and numerous veins and dikes cross them, as proved by surface work.
About ten years ago the 500-ft. shaft was sunk and the adits were driven fifteen years ago. About $1,000,000 worth of ore has been shipped from the property. There is now 500,000 tons of ore opened to 200 ft. which should be mined and milled at a profit of $1 per ton. Tests on the ore show that, by simply crushing to 8 mesh and cyaniding, 85% recovery should be made.
A 200-ton plant is recommended, to be erected on the hillside. A report by Linderfelt & Stewart practically confirms these figures.
Recent development has opened 100,000 tons of ore. Tests on this ore showed the assay value to be $12, and the tailing to be 20c. per ton after a 72-hr. leach on a 12-mesh product in a 3-lb. cyanide solution.
The ore slimes readily, and will require classification, treating the slime independently of the sand. This will increase the extraction with little if any additional cost of treatment.

The following description of the proposed El Oro mill is given by the Cripple Creek Times:

It is favorably situated on the side of Battle and Squaw mountains in Eclipse gulch. Ores from the mines of the Company will be trammed to a storage-bin above the rock-crusher, and from this passes through a trommel, where a certain per-centage of waste is rejected.
The oversize from the trommel will be sent to the coarse-crushing rolls, and the fine rolls get that which passes the trommel. All ore is to be carried by a belt-conveyor to the main plant, where it is sampled and then run into storage-bins behind the Chilean mills.
From one of these storage-bins that portion of the oxidized ores amenable to direct cyanide treatment will be conveyed to a series of sand tanks where the usual leaching process for extracting the gold will be used.
From the storage-bins containing the sulphide ores, the material is fed uniformly by plunger feeders into the Chilean mills, along with weak cyanide solution. After being crushed, the ore flows to a distributing barrel, and then to concentrating tables. The product from these will be shipped to smelters.
The pulp next is lifted by a belt and bucket elevator to classifiers, which make two products, sand and slime.
Part of the former is reground in tube-mills, the balance being leached in vats. The reground pulp is elevated to a height sufficient to return it to the classifiers which separate from it and return to the tube-mills any sand that may have escaped being crushed fine enough in going through the mills the first time, while the slime classification flows to cone classifiers.
The underflow of these goes back to sliming tables, the overflow to the dewatering tanks. The overflow solution separated from the pulp during the pulp-thickening process is pumped back to the mill service tanks for re-use in the Chilean mills and general mill service.
The underflow of the heavier pulp particles separating from the charge passes to a series of Pachuca tanks. The pulp from these is finally filtered by a revolving machine, and gold is precipitated by either zinc dust or shaving.

The station pump which was installed at the property of the El Oro Mining & Milling Co. is making good headway toward dewatering the shaft, which work will continue until the 500-ft. level has been recovered, a crosscut will be started from the 500-ft. level toward the Carbonate Queen claim.

The 400-ft. level of the Eclipse shaft, on the southwestern slope of Battle mountain, submerged and inaccessible for the past ten years, has been recovered by the pumps of the El Oro Mining & Milling Co., operating the mine, and of more importance to the stockholders of that Company, R. G. Mullen, who entered and made a casual examination, reports ore exposed awaiting development.
An 11-drill compressor has been installed.
