Engineering and Mining Journal Report—The Zenobia on Bull Hill is looking well and is being actively worked. While driving the 80-ft. level on the Pharmacist lode, a cross-vein which faulted the Pharmacist vein for about 8 or 10 ft. was encountered.
This vein on exploitation has proved to be richer than the original one, and is considered the main vein on the property.

Zenobia.—This mine cleared over $11,000 during May.

The Zenobia mine sends free-milling gold quartz as its part of the Cripple Creek District representations of the Colorado State Exhibit displays at the Colombia Exposition.

Members of the Colorado Scientific Society attending the 127th Regular Meeting held at the Masonic Hall in Cripple Creek July 1st, 1895, visited on the 2nd of July several mines and mills; Portland, Raven, Ruby, Lucky Guss, Zenobia, Pharmacist, Victor, Buena Vista, Londonderry, Climax, Deerhorn, Summit mines were visited, and also the Brodie and Hartzell Mills were inspected.

Another curious specimen has been taken from the Zenobia about 350 feet from the point where the crystal heart was found a few days ago, as related in The Times Sunday.
It is formed partly of crystals also, and the balance of stalactite stringers, that look for all the world like maccaroni tubes, after having been boiled in tomato sauce.
At one time the mountains hereabouts were under water, else these curious formations could not have been.
The specimen Mr. Ryan has now on hand is more curious that the crystal heart, in that it carries pay values in ore. Had the water run a little longer, a few million years, the rock would have [words near unreadable due to fold but looks like the following] been for all the world like a bunch of fruits clinging to the side of the cave of which it was found.
Instead it bears the appearance of a fruit that had been raised in the dark, for the berries, or what would have looked like berries, are white and slightly stained.
Running from the top to the bottom of the specimen, and interwoven through it are the stalactite strings, of various sizes, and in looking at it, one wonders how water could possibly have followed such strange courses to have formed the string, as seen on the face of the rock.
The Zenobia dump is covered with the crystals, though none are of such value as specimens as the two referred to.

Mr. Ryan, of the Branch, has refused several flattering offers for the crystal heart taken from the 400-foot level of the Zenobia a few days ago.

THE CLAWSON LEASE.
The Clawson lease, owned by Clawson, Ryan and Hanley, resumed work again yesterday on the Zenobia. The lease has been closed during the legal controversy between the Pharmacist and the Zenobia properties. The lease has yet about eight months to run with the privilege of renewal.
The present lessees took charge when the incline shaft had attained a depth of 480 feet and sank it 90 feet. Work was stopped just as good indications were had and it is the expectations of the lessees that they will soon commence to ship.

GETTING GOOD ASSAYS.

It looks now as though Ryan and Hanley, leasing on the Zenobia, are to be rewarded for their long and hard work on the property. The lessees are cross-cutting at a depth of 530 feet for the junction of two veins and the assays obtained yesterday from the rock in the breast gave values of as high as $65 to the ton on gold.

That the late Mr. Stratton had abundant faith in the future and believed in deep mining was evidenced by the amount of work he did on Bull and other hills.
An example is that on the Zenobia a new three-compartment shaft was sunk. It is now 530 feet in depth, while the levels have been pushed a total distance of 510 feet.

The executors of the Stratton estate have just announced that with the exception of the Zenobia property, none of the holdings of the late W. S. Stratton will be leased.

Zenobia.—The Zenobia is being opened up by James Wright and is shipping a couple of carloads of ore a week. The Zenobia was generally looked upon as a worked out mine and its reappearance in the shipping list is gratifying.

Cripple Creek, Colorado.—A goodly sized body of ore has been encountered on the Zenobia claim, on Bull hill, the property of the Stratton estate, now under operation by Riley and his associates. Returns in car lots range from two to five ounces of gold to the ton. Several small streaks which run through the vein run up into the hundreds of dollars. All, however, is being broken down.
The ore is being mined approximately 1,000 feet south of the shaft at a depth of 500 feet, which affords practically unlimited stoping ground. This new strike was only recently found and the details are being kept a secret, but the above facts have leaked out.
Riley within a couple of months, a year or more ago, took out upward of $25,000 from a lease he had on the Gold Coin. If the values hold out, and there is every reason to believe they will, Riley will probably take out on his own account about $100,000 before next New Year's day rolls around.

The Zenobia mine on Bull hill is being re-opened by the Zenobia Gold Mining Co., a corporation controlled by Stratton's Cripple Creek Mining & Development Co.

The Stratton's Cripple Creek Mining and Development Co. has granted a prospecting permit to John Oldsberg, of Cripple, on the Zenobia property.

The first ore to be sent out from the Zenobia shaft on Bull hill in a long time was billed out the other day by Frank Gunn and associates, who started up this plant some time ago.

Girls' Leasing Company—This Boston company, of which Mary Collins is superintendent, has a prospecting permit on the Zenobia claim on Bull hill and the property is now being sampled.

The Zenobia shaft located in South Altman have within three weeks been started and is used by a leaser working the Hidden Treasure.

Working through the 400-ft. level of the Zenobia shaft in the New Zealand, on Bull hill, W. J. Davenport, Jr., has opened the main New Zealand vein.
Eighteen ins. of quartz is exposed and this core is filled with rusty gold and some sylvanite.
