Jelinek Cage Chairs in Use at District Mines
Jelinek Cage Chairs.
graphic for visual presentation of text The importance of a safe, simple, cheap and sure cage chair is recognized by every mine superintendent and appreciated by every mineworker. To meet the condition the Jelinek cage chair has been put on the market by Hendrie & Bolthoff company of Denver.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Jelinek chairs are attached to the bottom of the cage, one set only being required for each single compartment shaft regardless of the number of levels. The simplicity and certainty of the device is shown by the illustrations herewith. There are no springs and the mechanical principles are simple and direct.
graphic for visual presentation of text The cage can be landed absolutely on the level or floor or at any set of timbers for repair work. The chairs are operated in four ways— from the cage itself, from any level without reaching into the shaft, from collar of shaft or from engineer's stand by means of a lever.
graphic for visual presentation of text The chairs serve as extension track rails or as guides for the cars. The cost of a set of chairs for a ten level shaft is about 1-10 of the cost of level landings of the old style. The chairs can be attached to any cage or bottoms with the chairs attached and can be purchased of the makers.
graphic for visual presentation of text These cage chairs are now in use in all parts of the country.
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text In the Cripple Creek district the Golden Cycle Mine, Findley and Independence Consolidated mines are users.
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text The chairs are manufactured in Denver and sold on a license plan for each compartment of a shaft with a perpetual term. When a license for a mine has been issued the chairs may be manufactured by the owners, thus making the device available in all parts of the country.

Depths of 1200 Feet or More Reached and Values Kept Up
When the United States geological survey of the Cripple Creek district was made in 1894, the deepest shaft in the district did not exceed 350 feet.
graphic for visual presentation of text That the report of the survey did not attempt to cover a greater depth, an idea gained prevalence in some quarters that the value would be found only in the surface workings. This feeling has been wholly controverted by the large shipments of high grade ore which are now being made from the deepest workings.

Independence and Colorado Mining Stocks.
graphic for visual presentation of text 4718. (Schenectady, N. Y.) Please inform me regarding what you think of the Independence gold mines as an investment? What gold mine stock do you consider the best for an investment? What is a good low priced stock for a speculation?
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text Ans.: The Independence Town & Mining Company is capitalized at 1,250,000 $1 shares, and owns 42 acres of patented ground, which has produced upwards of $750,000 under leasing system, the company having received upwards of $110,000 in royalties. The company is the defendant in somewhat rancorous litigation, one of the suits being now in the course of hearing in court. On January 18 the stock sold at 33c. But for such migration the stock would readily sell for upwards of $1, as it is an exceptionally rich and well equipped property.
graphic for visual presentation of text It would be invidious to single out one particular gold stock as the best for an investment, but, among others, may be mentioned Elkton, Isabella, Portland, Vindicator, Gold Coin, etc. The same remark applies as to a good low-priced stock for a speculation, as there are a number of about equal merit, on the best selection from which probably no two equally well informed persons would exactly agree.

graphic for visual presentation of text The Fox lease on the Hull City Placer has now started in to make a record for itself as a shipper. Present production is from 7 to 8 tons a day, and as the drifts are run further and more room for the men to work is opened up, these figures can be increased greatly.
graphic for visual presentation of text Ore was first encountered on this lease in a drift in a drift from the bottom of a 125-foot shaft some distance west of the one in which work is now going on.
