Blue Bell Info
Dr. A. J. Lanterman, having resided in Leadville and at Buena Vista for the past fourteen years, and being everywhere, is recognized as a person of the highest integrity. Since November last, he has spent more than half of his time in the Cripple Creek district and is doubtless second to none in possession of information concerning its resources. He has watched the progress of events with painstaking interest from the beginning, and his simple relation of them constitutes a pretty succinct history of the camp.
"I know but little about the Blue Bell; the Blue Bell vein is from six to fifteen inches, and it is a true fissure vein with granite walls. The other true fissure vein I know of is located in the Washington. In all the other claims I have seen, they all have walls of porphyry.
I am not a geologist or a mineralogist, although engaged in mining for many years. I am not, therefore, bold enough to entertain a theory of the formation of this district. The generally accepted idea, however, is that the porphyry has been thrown out through the fissures in the granite, and the mineralized quartz has formed true fissures in the porphyry."

Gold Sovereign Happenings
The production of the Gold Sovereign, on Bull hill, is becoming heavier, and the April output probably will be in the neighborhood of 27 cars. Ore is being mined from both the upper and lower workings, and is returning all the way from 1 oz. to 142 ozs. gold.
Several sets of sub-lessees are operating on this ground, and the original lease is held by the Clements Leasing Co., which is at present engaged in prospect work in the deeper levels, where an excellent showing is reported.
The Gold Sovereign dumps are also being worked over by lessees, and a fair grade of milling ore is saved after the rock has been washed, hand sorted and screened.

Gold Sovereign Sinks in Good Ore
Good Ore in the Gold Sovereign.
Three shifts of men are being employed sinking the shaft of the Gold Sovereign mine on Bull hill. The shaft is being sunk from the 800-ft. level to a depth of 900 ft., 30 ft. having already been done.
Some of the best ore of the Sovereign has been obtained on the lower levels and when the shaft reaches a depth of 900 ft. it is proposed to do extensive cross-cutting of the property. An electric hoist installed on the 800-ft. level is being used in the sinking.
The output of the Gold Sovereign is about 30 tons per day, most of which is produced by lessees.

EVERY INDICATION THAT A GREATER BODY OF MINERAL IS YET TO BE DISCOVERED.
---------
At a depth of 280 feet in the Whisper shaft of the Gold Sovereign, another big find has been made. Drifting in a north-westerly direction from the shaft a four-foot vein was encountered yesterday morning. In the vein is a streak 18 inches in width that assays from 25 to 28 ounces to the ton.
Recent work in the Logan has proven that the Sovereign has rich ore down to a depth of 1,000 feet. In an upper level the Logan drifted up to the line of the Sovereign on rich ore, and in the 1,000-foot level they are within 200 feet of the Sovereign line and in good ore.
The officers of the Sovereign believe that the ore chute will carry big values all the way down, and do not hesitate to bank their hopes on it that it will yet turn out to be one of the great mines of the camp.
