Orphan Belle Under Bond & Lease
Charles W. and C. A. Pearey and A. J. Hartley have taken a $100,000 bond and lease on the Orphan Belle lode on Bull mountain, and have put a force of six men at work in the shaft, sinking it as rapidly as possible.
The ore body is more than paying the expenses of sinking, and is being sacked for shipment as soon as the roads are made passable for heavy loads.
There are now thousands of tons of rich ore in the bins, much of which is already sacked for shipment, but at present it is almost impossible to get it out of camp, on account of the bad condition of the roads.

Orphan Bell Info
From the Lou P. K. I went almost due east to Bull mountain, near the summit of which is located the Buena Vista, and near it, the Orphan Belle, 350 feet away.
The Orphan Belle is in ore, but the management does not feel assured it is on the vein, and there is such a degree of uncertainty existing regarding the locality that it may well be denominated a "gamble."
But that it is deemed a good gamble is attested by the activity everywhere manifest all over Bull mountain.

Orphan Bell With Good Indications of Mineral
A two days' jaunt on horseback took me from Rhyolite hill, on the north, to Grouse mountain, on the south, and from Pisgah, on the west, to Wilson creek, on the east, within which boundaries some four thousand claims have been located.
The greater part of those have nothing more than the assessment work done upon them, and in many instances, this has been so indifferently done, and with such an utter abandon and disregard of the statues, that they cannot be held for a moment to comply with the legal requirements.
But, in traversing Ennis, Globe, Gold, Bull, Tenderfoot, Womack, Mineral and a score or more of hills in the district, sources of Cripple, Wilson, Requa, Squaw and other water courses, I came upon scores of properties that were being developed with more or less vigor and intelligence, some with tunnels or inclines, others with shafts or open cuts, and the owners of each full of hope and expectations.
Among those having already good indications of mineral is the Orphan Belle Mine on Bull Mountain.

Orphan Belle Robbery
NO CLEW.
------
Robbers of the Maloney shaft Have Not Been Apprehended.
The five men who held up the engineer and other men yesterday morning at the Maloney lease on the Orphan Belle, have apparently made good their escape.
No clew has yet been found, though the police are on the lookout, and all the mills and smelters have been warned not to accept the ore if it is offered for sale.
The ore missing amounts to ten 50-pound sacks, valued at $400 a sack, or $4,000 altogether. It had been sorted and sacket the day previous, and the robbers evidently knew just what they would find.

Orphan Belle Robbed
STOLE 600 POUNDS OF ORE.
——————
Masked Men at Cripple Creek Rob Orphan Belle Mine.
CRIPPLE CREEK, Col., Sep. 1.—Early this morning three masked men entered the shafthouse of the Orphan Belle Mine on Bull Hill, and covering the engineer, blacksmith, lander, and helper with revolvers, ordered them into the shaft.
The night foreman was already below. When the mine employes finally came up, fifteen minutes later, the robbers had gone, and taken with them ten sacks of sylvanite ore, weighing sixty pounds each.
The sylvanite had been sorted just the day before by Manager Lornton. The total value of the ore was $5,000 or over $8 per pound.
The Orphan Belle was recently sold to a New York company for $375,000.
