A two days' jaunt on horseback took me from Rhyolite hill, on the north, to Grouse mountain, on the south, and from Pisgah, on the west, to Wilson creek, on the east, within which boundaries some four thousand claims have been located.
The greater part of those have nothing more than the assessment work done upon them, and in many instances, this has been so indifferently done, and with such an utter abandon and disregard of the statues, that they cannot be held for a moment to comply with the legal requirements.
But, in traversing Ennis, Globe, Gold, Bull, Tenderfoot, Womack, Mineral and a score or more of hills in the district, sources of Cripple, Wilson, Requa, Squaw and other water courses, I came upon scores of properties that were being developed with more or less vigor and intelligence, some with tunnels or inclines, others with shafts or open cuts, and the owners of each full of hope and expectations.
Among those having already good indications of mineral is the Badger Boy.

Colorado Springs, Dec. 26.—Lessee De Masters and associates, who recently secured two blocks, which comprise the Badger Boy claim on the Stratton estate, located on Globe Hill, to-day sent out their initial shipment.
This property was developed to a large extent by the company holding the claim before Stratton secured the ground by purchase. While it always held out the brightest prospects for the operators, no great ore bodies were ever encountered, which makes it all the more important now that shipments have been started.

Denver.—The strike made recently on the Badger Boy claim of the Stratton estate on Globe hill. Cripple Creek, by the Union Leasing company is now showing up richer than ever.
The vein struck at a depth of 80 feet has been followed by a drift and is now over 5 feet wide. The ore runs $35 per ton all the way across, and the shoot carries several rich seams, which give better than 20 ounces gold per ton. An elaborate electric plant has been placed and deepening the shaft commenced.

Cripple Creek—Ore of high value is being mined on the Badger Boy on Globe hill by Ingram and associate lessees. The last lot sent out was estimated to run $80.
