graphic for visual presentation of text The strike in the Baker lease on the Mattie D. of the Ingham is greater than was at first reported. The ore has been runs from four to six hundred dollars to the ton.
graphic for visual presentation of text Several weeks ago the ore was encountered in the old workings of the company, which have been leased for the past year or so. Baker was working 100 feet below the tunnel level of the Mattie D., when he ran into a streak that carried $500 to the ton, the same character of stuff that made the Mattie D. a bonanza a few years back, when the company sank a winze eighteen feet and took out $8,000 worth of pay ore.
graphic for visual presentation of text Baker had the same streak and proceeded to follow it. He went eighty feet below that point, and crosscut for it again, and was not disappointed, while lessees beneath him drove through the country, and also caught the rich shoot. The high grade matter is from twelve to twenty inches in width, and the entire vein matter is about three feet. The lower grade of ore runs about $30 to $40, and the average of the high grade streak is worth, as stated above, between $400 and $500 to the ton, with an average of something like $500.
