Queen on Gold Hill Findings
THE FIND IS IMPORTANT

A CROSSCUT FROM AN OLD SHAFT SHOWS THE FISSURE TO BE A STRONG ONE
————————————
Some days ago mention was made of McDonald and Walsh having opened an entirely new vein at surface in the Queen claim on Gold, one of the properties of the Ben Hur company. After drifting a short distance and getting the strike of the lead they found that by going into an old 300-foot shaft they could crosscut to the vein, providing it went down.
A platform was put in at 75 feet, and work commenced. Sunday they were delighted by breaking into the vein where from wall to wall it is 2,5 feet wide, and assays five ounces and better.
As soon as a shipment is taken out the men will have sufficient money to put on a plant of machinery and will run a level out at 150 feet, and also at 300 feet. Just now the strike seems to be one of the most important that has been made in a long time, and this will surely be the case if the chute is found again at the 300-foot point.

Ben Hur Mining Co. Inquiry
Ben Hur Mining Co.
4713. (Flint, Mich.) Will you kindly give me what information you can about the Ben-Hur Company of Cripple Creek? Is their stock a good investment at present prices?
Ans.: The Ben Hur Mining & Milling Company is capitalized at 900,000 shares and owns 14 acres on Gold Hill and about 21 acres on Squaw Mountain.
A large amount of work has been done by lessees. About $25,000 has been expended, and some ore taken from the Little King claim on Gold Hill. There are five sets of lessees on the Little King and Little Queen claims on Gold Hill. Stock quoted at 7⅝c. on the 12th inst.
We are inclined to the opinion that better investments than these stocks could be found.

Ben Hur to Sink 700 Feet on the Queen
(From the Colorado Springs Gazette.)
—————————
WILL SINK 700 FEET.
A new shaft is to be sunk on the Little Queen claim of the Ben Hur company to a depth of 800 feet at a cost of something like $40,000, the work to be started as soon as the meeting of the stockholders is held and the capital stock of the company increased from 900,000 shares to 1,250,000 shares as proposed. This meeting is to be held at the offices of the company on Monday, August 12, the books closing on August 14, at noon.
In sinking the shaft stations will be cut at each hundred feet to a depth of 500 feet and levels will be run below that point at the same intervals. It is proposed to explore the mineral bodies that are known to exist.

Silver Ore in Ben Hur Property
A strike of unusual interest has been made in this district, on the property of the Ben Hur Company. A body of good grade silver ore was encountered some time ago, from which several cars have been shipped.
The returns on the first car run in the neighborhood of a thousand dollars, and as this is the first shipment of silver ore from this district which has produced immense quantities of gold but no silver up to the time this company opened the new ore, it is attracting considerable attention.
Mr. F. H. Pettingell of Colorado Springs, who has devoted years to the affairs of the Ben Hur Company, is well pleased with the results of his efforts, and predicts great things for the new "silver mine.
