Conejos Claim Troubles
It is reported on what is considered reliable authority that serious trouble has arisen over the Conejos claim located on the outskirts of Victor, adjoining the Adams lode.
The claim is owned by John Conaghy and was jumped the night of December 31, since which time it has been guarded by 100 men with Winchesters.
It is said that John Calderwood, president of Miners Union, and Marshall Bell of Victor, are among the armed force and that Hugh Hoy, a brother-in-law of Marshall Bell, has been arrested.
The claim jumpers assert that the assessment work was not done in 1893. The owner had started a patent and the stakes were up. The new location is called the K. and L.
Other arrests are expected.
