City of Cripple Creek Gold Mining Co. Starts Operations in City
Colorado Springs, Col., Dec. 7.—The City of Cripple Creek Gold Mining Company, which recently purchased all the assets of the Cripple Creek Enterprise Company, which held a franchise from this city to mine under the streets and alleys, this morning started operations through the main shaft located on the corner of Fourth and Myers avenue.
The shaft, which has been sunk to a depth of over 200 feet, was found to have considerable water in it, so the new operators have put in the day pumping to unwater the mine. As soon as this is completed operations will be commenced on a large scale.
The new owners expect to sink the shaft a couple of hundred feet immediately and thoroughly exploit the surrounding ground from different depths so it will be only a short time until operations will be carried on a large scale and the mine located at the Short Line depot will be a novel sight for visitors to this city.

Home Mining Company
HOME MINING COMPANY
————————————
The success at the Home Mining company of Leadville has determined enterprising citizens of Cripple Creek to follow the example of the Cloud City.
A few weeks ago M. S. Beal obtained from the city council the right to mine under the streets and alleys of Cripple Creek. It is the plan of the promoters of the new company to enlist the co-operation of the various lot owners and all those who retained the mineral rights to their property, and to raise a sufficient fund to commence the work of mining beneath the surface of the streets. That there is mineral in paying quantities beneath Cripple Creek is well known. A vein of rose quartz apexes at the corner of Third street and Carr avenue in front of Webster's photograph gallery, and passes diagonally under the Collins hotel. In excavating for the foundation of this property assays from this vein where taken which showed it to be of the value of $30 and $40, and many incline to the belief that, with depth these will increase.
Another vein is exposed in a Midland Terminal cut below Bennett avenue a short distance from their depot, while in other places veins have been uncovered of varying richness.
The Cripple Creek company will probably start work within the coming year when it is their intention to sink a shaft and thoroughly prospect the ground, and it is believed that the company will be just as much a success as the Home company of Leadville, whose shares are to-day valued at $30 apiece.

Home Company Exploiting Cripple Creek Ore
Workmen employed by the water company digging trenches for extensions to the water system, have cut three veins of gold bearing quartz on C street in West Cripple Creek. Assays from the ore give returns of from $30 to $80 a ton. It has been known for a long time that ore bodies extend under the city of Cripple Creek, and the Home company is at present exploiting the shoot at a depth of 100 feet.
T. J. Moynahan, who owns considerable ground in the vicinity of the new find, has offered Col. Ed F. Browne a lease on his property and a bonus of $1,000 cash the day he ships one carload of ore running $25 to the ton from the property. Col. Browne proposes to organize a company and develop Mr. Moynahan's ground.
