Bonanza King With Good Indications of Mineral
A two days' jaunt on horseback took me from Rhyolite hill, on the north, to Grouse mountain, on the south, and from Pisgah, on the west, to Wilson creek, on the east, within which boundaries some four thousand claims have been located.
The greater part of those have nothing more than the assessment work done upon them, and in many instances, this has been so indifferently done, and with such an utter abandon and disregard of the statues, that they cannot be held for a moment to comply with the legal requirements.
But, in traversing Ennis, Globe, Gold, Bull, Tenderfoot, Womack, Mineral and a score or more of hills in the district, sources of Cripple, Wilson, Requa, Squaw and other water courses, I came upon scores of properties that were being developed with more or less vigor and intelligence, some with tunnels or inclines, others with shafts or open cuts, and the owners of each full of hope and expectations.
Among those having already good indications of mineral is the Bonanza King.

Bonanza King Unearths a Fire Opal
(From the Cripple Creek Press.)
—————————
FIRE OPAL FOUND.
A magnificent fire opal was encountered yesterday in the Bonanza King on Gold hill at 130 feet from the surface. The stone is a beauty, and Raine, the Jeweler, says he has never seen a finer one.
Nothing of the kind was ever before noticed in the property, but in future close attention will be paid to all rock broken. E. E. Sherman and John Carmichael have a lease on the ground where the jewel was found.

Metallic Gold Found in Bonanza King
For the first time in the history of the Cripple Creek district, metallic gold has been found in the rock, and several of the finest specimens ever taken from the mines here are now being displayed by J. F. W. Doepke of St. Louis, president of the Midget and Bonanza King companies, the ore being from the latter property.
The metallic gold is valued as high as $18 an ounce and is almost the pure article. It is found in pocket and seams, the widest being 2 in. in the ore body of the Bonanza King.
This body of ore is 25 ft. wide and has been opened on the fifth, sixth and seventh levels. This metallic gold was taken from the fifth level.
The Bonanza King is on the west slope of Gold hill, within a half mile of the city of Cripple Creek. Other fine specimens of this peculiar ore will average about $10 an ounce.
