CRIPPLE CREEK ORE PRODUCTION.
———
According to statements of the smelter and mill representatives and the accompanying estimates of values, the output of Cripple Creek mines in March amounted to 73,125 tons, carrying a gross bullion value of $1,358,455. This production is 3,979 tons in excess of that of February for tonnage, and $105,401 in value.
Increases are shown at all of the plants, with the local mills handling an exceptionally heavy tonnage. This output is largely due to the favorable weather condition. The output:

New Lessees at Wild Horse Mill Treating About 50 Tons Daily
After a series of experiments conducted before accepting a lease on the Wild Horse mill, Hemby & Anderson are now treating $3 ore at a profit from this mine.
The Wild Horse mill uses the straight cyanide process and was constructed to handle large bodies of low-grade oxidized ore in the mine.
These had been partially worked out by the original owners and leasers. About 50 tons a day is run through the mill. Since the latter part of October the mill has been working full force. A clean-up will not be made until late this month.
The Wild Horse mill was the first constructed in the district. It proved very successful and was the real incentive for the building of other mills.
After exhaustion of the oxidized ores, the metallurgists were confronted with the proposition of treating complex ores.

Wild Horse.—Lessee Thomas Kavanaugh last week shipped five tons of ore from this property which will probably have a gross value of about $5,000. Considerable money has been made in cleaning up the old workings of the Wild Horse, which is also producing about 40 tons daily of ore, which is treated at the cyanide mill.

R. E. A & A. M. & M. Company.—This company has a five-year lease on the Wild Horse and also on the large dumps. There has been erected a modern 100-ton cyanide plant on the property and seventy-five tons of ore are being treated daily.
It has been concluded by the company to increase the capacity to 200 tons. The ore is very highly oxidized and there is an immense body of cyanide ore in the mine.
The company is mining and shipping a car of smelting ore a week in addition to their cyanide product.
The officers of the company are:
E. H. Asmussen, president and treasurer
Allen Morell, vice president and secretary
W. E. Abbott, mine manager
and H. F. A. Riebling, mill manager and metallurgical engineer.

R. E. A. and A. Mill, or Wild Horse Mill, a Year's Progress in Cyaniding
Since the last report of the condition of cyaniding in the Cripple Creek district given in Mining Reporter (September 1, 1904), many changes have taken place as regards the mills in active operation, but comparatively little in the general milling practice. The year has been marked by exceptional activity in mill construction but closes with but a slight increase of tonnage over that reported a year ago. Only two mills, the Homestake and the R. E. A. and A., were then running with an approximate capacity of 300 tons per day. Four mills are now in active operation, but the aggregate tonnage does not exceed 375 tons per day.
The R. E. A. and A. mill, usually called the Wild Horse mill, is the only mill that has been running steadily throughout the year. It has been running principally upon dump material from the old Wild Horse shaft, but has also derived part of its tonnage from the mine. Ore from the 1,000-foot level has been successfully treated.
The R. E. A. and A. mill has a 90 tons Capacity with 4 Tanks being 6 x 25 feet each and Approximate capacity of 90 tons. The Crushing mesh is 5, and the Strength of strong solution is 5 lbs., with a Loss of KCN per ton of ore of ¾ lb. Value of ore treated is $4.50, and the Tailings assay are 0.65. Length of treatment are 72 hours. Lime used per ton are 2½ lbs.
As a rule the nature of the ore in the district does not admit of cyanidation without roasting, to any great depth, but an area including portions of Bull, Ironclad and Globe hills seems to be an exception to the general rule.
The Wild Horse on the northwestern slope of Bull hill, has oxidized ore down to the 1,000-foot level and even to some extent below.

Wild Horse Mill Might Not Pay Any Longer
Cripple Creek, June 19. (Special Correspondence)— The Wild Horse mill at the mine is not equipped for handling the high-grade material from the lower levels, and it would not pay to remodel the mill for the amount the lessees are taking out. The mill is dry-crushing, and the ore requires wet-crushing machinery, but it has been operated at a profit on the ore which they are able to handle. A number of sub-lessees are taking out ore on the Wild Horse.
