Roosevel Tunnel Ends at Hawkeye
The center of the Hawkeye claim of the Portland company marks the ending of 11 years of work on the Roosevelt tunnel which may now be considered completed, as work has ceased with the heading in the before mention claim. The cost of this drainage tunnel has been $812,000, and this sum includes sinking of an intermediate shaft 700 ft., and a raise of 160 ft. to connect with the Elkton main shaft, through which the tunnel is now operated.
