Sioux Falls Mill Construction Progressing Well
The Sioux Falls and Cripple Creek Company, operating the Fluorine claim on Copper mountain, is making good progress with the construction of its cyanide plant, which, when completed, will treat 100 tons of ore per day.
The result of the operation of this mill will be watched with considerable interest, and indications are that Copper mountain will again be the centre of north end interest.

Copper Mountain Mill Expected Working Next Week
The cyanide mill which is being erected to handle the low grade ores of Copper Mountain, is now practically completed, and in another week should be treating the gold beating rock found in this mountain.
When this mill is completed, it should stimulate operations in the northern section of the camp, as the ore discovered in this section heretofore has been of too low a grade to justify shipping out of the district.

Sioux Falls Mill Has Commenced Operations
The new 100-ton cyanide mill erected by the Sioux Falls & Cripple Creek Gold Mining Company at the foot of Copper mountain, north of Cripple Creek, has commenced operations. Four large cyanide tanks are in place, capable of holding over 100 tons of ore.
A full plant of machinery and a 50 horse power boiler has been installed, and the large structure covers nearly an acre. The prospect for making a good proposition is very bright, now that the mill is in operation, for the company, which owns considerable property in this neighborhood and who have leases on other properties, have an enormous quantity of low grade ore in the immediate vicinity that from tests, proves to be ideal cyaniding ore.

Sioux Falls Mining & Leasing Co. Happenings
The Sioux Falls Mining & Leasing Company, operating on the Fluorine claim on Copper mountain, last week started operations with their new 100-ton cyanide mill.
An immense body of low grade ore is available in the immediate vicinity of the mill, and handsome profits are expected. The ore is quarried from open cuts, which obviates the expense of hoisting and greatly reduces the cost of handling.

Sioux Falls Mill Formally Accepted
The new cyanide mill of the Sioux Falls and Cripple Creek M. & D. Company has been tested for a period of thirty days and formally accepted, a brick of 8½ pounds having been obtained. The problem of treating the low grade ores seems to have been solved by the use of this process.
There are great quantities of this class of ore in the district, and now that this can be utilized, the output will be largely increased.

Sioux Falls Co. Reports Progress
The Sioux Falls Company report that the grade of ore from the Fluorine claim has a value of $4.00 to $6.00 per ton and as it has been roasted by nature it only requires pulverization and a few hours to treat by the cyanide treatment. They claim that they are breaking, hauling and treating the ores at a total cost of less than $2.00 per ton. During the past six months an average of 75 tons per day have been treated.
In view of the fact that it is now possible to treat ore valued as low as $4.00 per ton by the cyanide process, thousands of acres of ore in the District should be amenable to treatment.

Lois Mill Description
The Lois mill of the Sioux Falls Company has been in active operation since November 1903 and is only at the present writing temporarily closed down for repairs.
The Lois has 4 tanks of only seventy-five tons capacity, where the strength of solution used varies, but averages 4 lb.
Value of ore tested is $4.00 and the length of treatment is 36 hours. Percentage of extraction is 75-80% and the cost of mining and milling is $1.30 at Lois mill.
Dry crushing is practiced and is undoubtedly preferable where the product required is coarse and no separation of sands and slimes is necessary for treatment. The fineness of crushing is 6 mesh, and the entire crushing plant consists of one gyratory and one set of rolls, which is comparatively simple as crushing plants go.
The following diagram show the process of crushing employed in the Lois mill:
1. From bins the ore goes to bar grizzly with half-inch spaces.
2. The oversize goes to gyratory crusher, the undersize to an elevator delivering to a six-mesh shaking screen.
3. The material from the gyratory crusher joins the undersize from the grizzly.
4. The oversize from the shaking screen goes to rolls, the undersize from the screen goes to an elevator which delivers to finished product bin.
5. The crushed material from the rolls also goes by elevator to finished product bin.
6. From finished product bin the material is trammed to tanks.
The loss of cyanide in the mill is not excessive, as the loss is said to amount to almost nothing. A failing off in the strength occurs during the first few hours of treatment and afterwards the strength again increases to nearly the original amount, an apparent regeneration of cyanide taking, place within the vat.
The method of precipitation is the ordinary one by means of zinc shavings, and no particular difficulty in this direction seems to have been encountered.

Sioux Falls Co. Mill & Mine Happenings
Colorado Springs, Nov. 9.—The Sioux Falls Company, operating on the Fluorine property, is treating in the neighborhood of 100 tons per day in their mill on the property, the majority of ore coming from a big open cut.
They have of late been pushing work in a tunnel, which has now reached a point of over 200 feet from the portal, where they have now encountered a vein measuring from 10 to 20 feet in width and from 65 feet below their lowest workings, which proves the continuity of the ore body with depth.

Lois Mill Resumed Operation, a Year's Progress in Cyaniding
Since the last report of the condition of cyaniding in the Cripple Creek district given in Mining Reporter (September 1, 1904), many changes have taken place as regards the mills in active operation, but comparatively little in the general milling practice. The year has been marked by exceptional activity in mill construction but closes with but a slight increase of tonnage over that reported a year ago. Only two mills, the Homestake and the R. E. A. and A., were then running with an approximate capacity of 300 tons per day. Four mills are now in active operation, but the aggregate tonnage does not exceed 375 tons per day.
The Lois mill, on Copper mountain, has resumed operations under a new company, after being closed down the greater part of the year.
The Lois mill has a 75 tons Capacity with 4 Tanks being 6 x 18 feet each and Approximate capacity of 75 tons. The Crushing mesh is 5, and the Strength of strong solution is 4 lbs., with a Loss of KCN per ton of ore of ¼ lb. Value of ore treated is $3.50, and the Tailings assay are 0.45. Length of treatment are 70 hours, with a Cost of mining and milling of $1.50. Lime used per ton are 4 lbs.
As a rule the nature of the ore in the district does not admit of cyanidation without roasting, to any great depth, but an area including portions of Bull, Ironclad and Globe hills seems to be an exception to the general rule.

Old Copper Mountain Mill Operating Again
Cripple Creek—Two shifts are employed at the old cyanide mill on Copper creekCopper Mountain, formerly operated by the Sioux Falls Mining & Milling Co., and approximately 75 tons of ore from the Finance* mine is handled daily.
* This name is Most Likely a name error/mistake done or it is possible a new company name; either way, it is an error in my view as there are no known mines with this name in the District! I presume this is really about the Fluorine mine as that is the property mostly linked to this mill.
