Uncle Sam Gold Mining & Milling Co. Inquiry
Uncle Sam Gold Mining & Milling Co.
5427. (Boston, Mass.) You would oblige me very much if you would furnish me information about the value of the mining stocks of the Uncle Sam Gold Mining & Milling Co. of Denver, Colo.
Ans.: Our Colorado correspondent writes: "The Uncle Sam Gold Mining & Milling Co., I think, is a Cripple Creek enterprise, as there are two Uncle Sam companies there. The one mentioned in the inquiry I take to be one which was promoted in 1895, during the Cripple Creek "boom,'' with properties on Straub mountain and Globe Hill.
If so, from what I can gather, there is very little merit to the enterprise at this time, as the principal owners of the stock of the company moved away from Colorado some two years ago and have gone into other enterprises without leaving any one in charge of the affairs of the Uncle Sam.
I understand there has been little, if any, work done on the properties for the past two years, and my informant tells me that he thinks quite a little of the property has been forfeited by the company by reason of non-performance of assessment work and has been re-located by other parties. With this showing, the stock of the company has practically no value.
