The first or lower track is at St. Peter's station, 15 miles from Colorado Springs, altitude, 8,700 feet, while the upper or third elevation on which train is shown, is near Duffield's, 18 miles from Colorado Springs, altitude, 9,300 feet.

There are three tunnels in this mountain, and you travel over three miles of track to gain a distance of 1,600 feet. The construction of the railroad at this point is a marvelous engineering achievement.
