Sixteen miles from Colorado Spring, altitude, 8,900 feet. In climbing around the sides of the mountains many deep cuts were necessary through the solid rock.

There is a succession of picturesque cuts in this section of the road, while the views obtained through the open spaces between the outside walls, looking down into canons of great depth, are awe-inspiring and grand.

The picture shows a good section of the Short Line's smooth track and perfect roadbed.
