The picture is another illustration of the marvelous engineering achievement in the construction of the line. The train emerging from the tunnel [No. 7] has circled around the mountain on a uniform grade in order to reach the upper elevation, traveling a quarter of a mile to gain a distance of about 60 feet.

The top of Devil's Slide is seen in the distance.
