Lafayette Ships
The Lafayette Reveling in Richness
If the Lafayette didn't strike it yesterday, then the eyes of The Times scribe deceived him and those big chunks of quartz that came from their shaft covered with rusty brown stuff and yellow cubes had no gold in them.
But it looked like gold add Mr. Boyle, the lessee, said he knew it was gold—in fact it was gold and very rich at that. The shaft in the Lafayette is now at a depth of 210 feet. The vein is from three to five feet wide and the very rich bay streak has widened in the past few day to about 20 inches.
Three shifts are working at the mine and two car loads of ore were shipped the first of the week and two cars more are out ready to send to the smelter.

Twitchell Bond on Lafayette Paid by Princess Alice G. M. Co.
A GOOD SIZED BOND TAKEN UP
What is known as the Twitchell bond on the Lafayette was taken up yesterday, which meant the payment in a lump sum of $20,000. The title to the property now rests with the Princess Alice Gold Mining company, who propose to work the property as energetically as the good miners they have in their employ can do it.
Shortly after the Princess Alice people contracted for the ground and had paid the original owner of the bond his price, a find of great moment was made in the bottom of the shaft. After sinking on the high grade ore a few feet a drift was run out a short distance, and it was found to be holding its own so well that the drift was abandoned and sinking again resumed.
Confident that a bonanza was in sight the management quit all development and started to put the shaft in shape for heavy production.
All of the officers in the Princess Alice company are women, and most of the stock is held by the gentler sex. In the Lafayette it looks like the company had hit upon a dividend-payer and a good one at that.

Strike on Lafayette of the Princess Alice
ANOTHER RICH STRIKE
—————————
Rich Ore Body Opened Up
in Princess Alice Mine Yesterday.
—————————
VEIN MEASURES 20 INCHES
—————————
SKEPTICAL MILL MAN MADE ASSAYS
THAT RAN AS HIGH AS $65,000 TO THE TON—
STRIPPING AND SACKING THE HIGH GRADE ORE.
—————————
Princess Alice made another strike yesterday. It is greater than the preceding one that startled the camp a few weeks ago. As depth is being gained each day, the fact is proved that the ore body of this mine is continuous and it is getting richer with depth.
The strike of yesterday was made in the tenth level of the Lafayette claim. In that level ore has been opened up. Yesterday, beyond the point where the ore had been opened, a shot was put in. It revealed a vein of almost solid sylvanite.
The vein measures twenty inches. Specimens from the new strike were shown to a few around the city last night, and all say it is greater than any yet shown.
Assays from samples taken from the vein show returns of $39,840 on the screenings, and on the coarse rock assays show $74,755.20. The work of stripping and sacking the high grade ore is rapidly going on, and from the way the sylvanite shows in the rock there is no question but what some of the returns will show a great deal better than $100,000 to the ton.
One of the most skeptical mill men of the district was telling last night that he went through the mine and took several samples from it unknown to the management.
The assays from his samples, and they were careful ones, he said, ran as high as $65,000.
