Vindicator Doing Great
The management of the Vindicator Company, on Bull Hill, is now breaking ore in the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth levels. The eleventh and twelfth are still under water. It was learned to-day that the company has enough ore in sight to keep them busy shipping at their usual rate for two years at least. This is remarkable when it is taken into consideration that six new ore shoots have been opened up in various levels during the last few months.

Vindicator Mine Stuff in 1908
The Vindicator mine has been one of the large producers of the camp and, at present, is worked almost entirely by lessees. Some of the richest ore found in Cripple Greek has been taken from this property, and many of the lessees have done exceptionally well. I consider it will be a steady shipper for many years yet, with possibilities of opening up additional orebodies under the leasing system. The main ore-shoots have been worked out, but much good territory remains undeveloped.

Vindicator Closes for Shaft Improvement
The Vindicator will close down October 1 in order to enlarge the shaft from two to three compartments. This, when completed, will enable the management to double the output capacity of the mine. It is now yielding about 3,000 tons per month.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Roosevelt deep drainage tunnel will not come within two miles of the Vindicator and is not, therefore, expected to have any effect upon its drainage. The manager says that while the company subscribed liberally to the cost of the big tunnel it was merely to encourage the enterprise, without hope of benefitting by it. While they are pumping what little water comes in, when it is once pumped out they have no further difficulty. There is no long-continued volume of water at any time or in any place.
graphic for visual presentation of text A distinguished engineer says the Vindicator lies in the deepest ore zone in the district; that is to say, farther above the underlying granite than any other. Another authority believes there is a water reservoir of limited dimensions somewhere between the present workings and the granite, but it probably will not cause any serious trouble.

Vindicator No. 1 Ore Values Examples
Some idea of the value of ore mined at the 1,400-ft. level of the Vindicator Co.'s main shaft may be obtained from the following figures taken from the daily reports of Superintendent Trevorrow.
graphic for visual presentation of text The samples are "grabs," that is to say, the regular mine samples, and in no case from ore selected for its richness; in fact, the richer strata or seams where sylvanite is plainly visible are not sampled.
graphic for visual presentation of text One day's tests were as follows:

Vindicator No. 1 in Rich Ore Shoots at 1400 Feet
Two of the richest and strongest ore shoots, exposed at great depth in the mines of this district, are under development at the 1,400-ft. level of the main or No. 1 shaft of the Vindicator Consolidated Co., on its Bull hill estate.
graphic for visual presentation of text These ore bodies, entered north of the shaft on the main Vindicator vein, have horizontal length of 635 ft., and while at different points 10 ft. and 12 ft. wide, have an average width of 6 ft.
graphic for visual presentation of text The first shoot encountered in the latite-phonolite, common to this immediate section of Bull hill, held good for 385 ft., when the values suddenly declined below pay. A barren portion of the vein was then drifted on for about 85 ft., when as suddenly pay ore was encountered.
graphic for visual presentation of text The second shoot has now been proven for 250 ft., with shipping values still obtaining in the breast of the drift. Four other veins exposed and under development north of the shaft at the 1,400-ft. level have strong ore shoots.

Ore Sorting At Vindicator Using Washing Plant
ORE SORTING AT CRIPPLE CREEK.
graphic for visual presentation of text——————
graphic for visual presentation of text The Vindicator mine has recently erected a new washing plant that gives excellent results. The plant is placed beyond the sorting house and takes the waste rejected by the ore sorters.
graphic for visual presentation of text The waste is thrown over grizzlies and the fines removed. The coarse rock passes to a large hopper, where it meets a heavy spray of water, which effectively removes the dust and caked tellurides which may adhere to the large pieces of rock.
graphic for visual presentation of text The washed rock goes to a belt conveyor and is picked over a second time by ore sorters, the clean surfaces allowing the men to identify pieces of ore that have escaped the sorters in the sorting house proper.
graphic for visual presentation of text The rock goes to another hopper, where it receives a second wash. During the short time this appliance has been at work it seems certain that the Vindicator company will save about one car a week of slimes and sorted material, which will average upwards of $100 per ton, or a monthly saving of about $6,000.
graphic for visual presentation of text The cost is said to be insignificant in comparison with the saving made.

Strike Situation at Cripple Creek; McKinney & Foster Confess to Bombing
M'KINNEY AND FOSTER CONFESS
To Blowing Up of the Vindicator Mine and Implicate Others
One Man Has it in for the Other and the Officers Worked Them
Troops Being Sent Home from Cripple Creek and Patrols Around Mines Recalled.

Denver, Colo., Dec. 16.—Charles McKinney and Thomas Foster have confessed to the blowing up of the Vindicator mine and to attempt to wreck the Florence and Cripple Creek train at Victor a month ago. Such was the announcement made by Attorney General Miller this morning.

McKinney is imprisoned at Canon City where he was taken some time ago to prevent violence being done him. Foster is in the Teller county jail. Both men were arrested by the military. Foster is one of the plaintiffs in a suit for damages against Governor Peabody for false arrest.

"We have absolute confessions from both of these men," said General Bell.

"They have stated and will swear that they with others whom they have implicated, formed a plot to destroy the Vindicator, and also the conspiracy to wreck the train loaded with non-union men. McKinney and Foster have been sore on each other for some time and we secured the confession of one by representing that the other fellow had squealed. Then the second man told his story.

Both stories agree in every detail. Information charging them directly with the blowing up of the Vindicator will be filed at once.

We are now after the men they have implicated, though we have a number of them in custody. When we got the other fellows we will make public the details of the crimes committed by these union men as they have told them."

Vindicator Workings
The production from the Vindicator or September was close to 1,800 tons of ore. All of this was of good grade as it has been the policy of the company to refrain from mining any low grade rock for some time past. The production was not in excess of former months, but in value was much higher than heretofore. The Vindicator company has reached a position where very little if any change is made in the regular production. The same amount of development work is carried on each month.

Strike Situation Can Close the Vindicator Mine
The situation is somewhat improved, but not yet settled. A number of concessions have been made by both sides. At present it seems as though the strike at the Standard mill would be settled, as all the demands of the union men at the mill have been met with, except as to the reinstatement of some of the striking mill men. If the trouble is not settled very soon a number of mines will have to close from having no marked for their ore.

Vindicator Mine & Company Recent News
Three important discoveries have been made by the Vindicator company during the past two weeks, according to the statement by the general manager, George Stahl.
graphic for visual presentation of textThe first at the 1900-ft. level of No. 1 or main shaft of the Vindicator, is in ground south-east of the Lillie mine, formerly owned by the Lillie (C.C.) Gold Mining Co. of England, since defunct. The new vein is 10 ft. between walls, carries ore that will make screenings worth $30 per ton.
graphic for visual presentation of textThe second discovery was made at the 1700-ft. level of the Golden Cycle shaft, corresponding to the 1900-ft of Vindicator No. 1. The vein is believed to be the same, but the ore was found 500 ft. east of the original discovery.
graphic for visual presentation of textThe third orebody has been found on the 1400-ft. level, north of Vindicator No. 1 shaft, where one of the so-called 'townsite' veins, lying under the town of Independence, has been encountered, north-west of the shaft.
