Lessees on Specimen Ready to Begin Shipping
BY SPECIMEN LESSEES

An Enormously Rich Ore Body Opened.

READY TO BEGIN SHIPPING

—————————

RAPID WORK PUTTING THE SHAFT DOWN

- FOUR FEET OF ORE NOW OPENED

—————————

What was formerly known as the Pratt and Gooper lease on the Specimen, now owned by Marshall McFadden, Combs of Pueblo, and Kenyon, will make its initial shipment in a few days. The lessees have only recently come into the ore, and have as yet no ore bins, but they have saved up some two or more carloads of ore of a good grade.

The terms of the lease required that 200 feet of sinking should be done before April 10. The lessees examined the ground, and decided that it was worth the trouble and expense.

The Specimen company was then shipping from the upper levels ore that ran $440 per ton, and the lessees hoped that with depth their part of the vein would do as well. So they put on a heavy force of men, and on the evening of April 9 they reached the 200-foot point, after an expenditure of $4,500.

Drifting on the vein at that depth, they have opened up what promises to be a bonanza. The whole vein, 4 feet in width, averages $40, while there are 20 inches of it good for $200, and a little streak which goes $1,500. When the levels have been extended so that a larger force of men can be put to work, the lease promises to become a profitable producer.

Specimen Leases
Victor Record writes; Specimen—Ogilvie and Dwoark have sub-leased the 100-foot level in the main shaft to Sellers & Co., on block 2 of the Specimen, who are working it through the Specimen shaft and shipping low grade ore every few days.

The 150-foot level is leased to a brother of Mr. Ogilvie, who is drifting for an extension of one of the numerous Specimen leads, and expects to encounter it within a few feet.

Ogilvie and Dwoark have a prospect shaft on the north end of the property and are cross-cutting at the depth of 105 feet for one of the Hull City leads.

Specimen June Output
THE SPECIMEN.

Last month's output of the Specimen mine on Bull hill was 150 tons of ore that averaged over three ounces of gold per ton.

All of this ore was broken by sub-lessees working through what is known as the joint shaft and which netted the miners a handsome profit after paying exceedingly high royalties.

Last week's production exceeded that of all previous weeks since the mine was first discovered, both in value and production, being about 50 tons of ore that netted $73 per ton.

In the sixth level, at a depth of 850 feet, a rich body of ore was recently discovered that will run into five figures, and the showing is sufficient to warrant the lowering of the shaft another lift of 100 feet. This work will be started on Monday by the original lessees, Walker and McGovney.

It is also expected to cut with depth the very rich lead lately discovered in the Lafayette, and which crosses the Specimen claim diagonally, and will give the latter property over 300 feet of this now famous vein.

Successful Leases.

The Western Investment Co., operating the Specimen claim of the Stratton estate on the south slope of Bull hill, is shipping from two to three cars of ore per week. Small high-grade streaks are being mined on the third level north of the shaft. Development is being done south of the shaft on the sixth level, where a 6-in. streak is being followed, but at present the vein is not of sufficient grade to pay for shipment.
