Work on the Claude and Nightingale
Work on the Claude and Nightingale

Frank S. Ingoldsby and associates are pushing the work on their Gold and Bull hill properties. They now have the machinery in place on the Claude and the contractors will start to work tomorrow with three shifts. The shaft is down 92 feet and a crosscut started broke into the vein in a distance of a foot and one half.

On the Nightingale lease, which adjoins the Lottie on Bull hill, the whim is ready to start tomorrow, and work will begin with three shifts. Crosscutting will be started east and west from the bottom of the 60-foot shaft and a tunnel will be run through the south end of the ground, so that any and all of the veins crossing the Nightingale territory are sure to be discovered.

Nightingale Vein Discovered
Nightingale.—This is the name of an 1891 claim, located on the west slope of Bull Hill, on which considerable work has been done both by lessees and by the owners, but without much shipment.

Recently a vein was discovered which bids fair to shortly reimburse the owners for their outlay. The vein is fully 3 ft. wide, and is all a low-grade shipping ore, $30 per ton.

Colonel C. H. Brown, of Denver, is to be congratulated on his ultimate success, as he was one of the first of Denver capitalists to speculate here.

Nightingale Lessee Brown Ships to Brodie Mill
Cripple Creek Mail—On the north end of the Nightingale, C. H. Brown is pushing development on the vein cut in the tunnel 130 feet from its mouth, and has shipped 25 tons of ore to the Brodie mill since the strike was made three weeks ago.

The last shipment was of 15 tons November 6th, the ore running from 1½ to 2 ounces to the ton with very little sorting. The breast of the drifts, fully four feet in width, is practically all ore and an assay from samples across the three feet taken November 6th returned $81 to the ton.

Nightingale Lessee Brown Pushing Developments
Cripple Creek Mail—C. H. Brown is steadily pushing developments on his Nightingale lease and producing from 15 to 20 tons of ore per week with a small working force.

A winze is now being sunk on the ore chute opened a few weeks ago from the tunnel workings. The vein holds regular at an average width of four feet and the entire body of it ships at a little less than $30 per ton without sorting.

Nightingale Lessee Brown Struck Ore in Tunnel
Nightingale.—This claim, on the west slope of Bull Hill, has been under lease to a Mr. Brown, of Denver, since last January.

He drove a tunnel 300 ft. and did prospecting work which cost nearly $6,000, and recently struck an ore chute caused by the junction of two small veins.

The vein in the winze is telluride ore 3½ ft. wide, which is all sent to the mills and returns $30 per ton. It is the intention of the lessee to sink the winze 30 ft.

Should the vein maintain its size and value a shaft will be sunk 40 ft. on the winze, a steam hoist will be erected and the mine be actively worked.

Nightingale Lessees in Rich Pocket
Denver— There are many reminders of old conditions at Cripple Creek. Rich pockets of surface ore are still found. Near the Moose, on the Nightingale, some lessees in June sunk a windlass-shaft and at 18 ft. went into ore.

They have since shipped approximately $10,000 worth with no machinery and little expense.
