Millmen's Strike Effect on Colorado City Mills
The Mill and Smelter Men's Union has voted to extend the strike at the Standard Mill in Colorado City to the Telluride and Portland mills. The Portland Mine may have to close. The Telluride and Portland managers refused to advance wages.
The Standard Mill, where the strike began, is still running with non-union men, who lodge in the mill buildings.

Mr. C. D. Grove Got Patent for Recovering Bromine
Mr. C. D. Grove, superintendent of the Telluride bromination mill at Colorado City, Colo., has received a patent for a process of recovering bromine after it has been used in the extraction of gold. The Telluride plant is the only one in the United States using the bromide process. Expert Cassell, of London, Eng., and others are associated with Superintendent Grove in the patent. The process is being used at the Telluride mill, and is considered of importance in saving of bromide.

Telluride Mill Sold
The Telluride mill at Colorado City, which has been in operation only two years, was last week sold to the General Metals Company of New York. This mill is the only one in this section using the bromide process. The best evidence of its success is the fact that the capacity of the mill was doubled after being in operation one year.
It has a capacity of 300 tons per day and ranks well with the other mills in this district. It is understood that the General Metals Company expects to use the bromide process abroad as well as throughout this country.
General Manager Hugh W. Fullerton returns to the home office of the Telluride company in New York; the management will otherwise remain the same.

Golden Cycle Mining Co. Mill Plans
The Golden Cycle Mining Company, of Colorado Springs, together with a number of other mining concerns owning producing properties in the Cripple Creek district, this week announced that they would erect and have in full operation within the next six months, a reduction works at Colorado City, to cost about $350,000.
The Golden Cycle Company has just consummated the purchase of 100 acres of land near the Telluride mill at Colorado City, and the plans for the structure are now being drawn.
The process used will probably be cyanide. The plans contemplate the erection of a mill that will treat from 300 tons to 400 tons of ore per day.
The daily output of the Golden Cycle property alone is now about 150 tons.

Golden Cycle Mining Co. Will Build Mill at Colorado City
Denver, Aug. 18—The Golden Cycle Mining Co. for some time past has owned over 60 acres of land at Colorado City, adjoining the Telluride plant, and it is probable that their plant will be built there. It will be a modern cyanide plant, of a capacity of from 200 to 300 tons daily, and the cost will be about $350,000.
For a while it was thought that a sale of the Telluride mill to this company was a probability, but the plan was given up, as the necessary alterations would be too expensive.

Golden Cycle Mining Co. Plans Larger Cyanide Mill
Cripple Creek.—The Golden Cycle Mining company at West Colorado Springs is planning the erection of a 700 ton cyanide plant. Nearly $300,000 has already been expended on improvements to the 300 ton mill recently purchased from the General Metals company.
The total expenditure in increasing the tonnage to 700 will approximate $500,000. The increase is necessitated by the purchase of the United Gold Mines company in the Cripple Creek district.

Golden Cycle Mill Help Reduce Rates
Golden Cycle.—Despite the fact that the daily press has endeavored to place this company in the light of a competitor of the mill trust, the management of the Golden Cycle Company announces that it is not in the market as a competitor, and has merely made a few contracts in order to insure an amply supply of ore.
Whatever truth there may be in this statement, it is nevertheless true that treatment rates have been reduced about $3 per ton on all Cripple Creek ores as a result of the stand taken by the Golden Cycle in lowering the rates $1.50 per ton.

Telluride Mill to Go Cyanide as Golden Cycle Mill
Annual Review.
New Cyanide Mills.
Popularity of Cyanidation.
The erection of cyanide mills for the treatment of the low-grade oxidized ores of the district has been an important feature. The Golden Cycle Mining Co. acquired the old Telluride mill from the General Metals Co. at Colorado City, which has been re-modeled to accommodate the cyanide process under the direction of Philip Argall of Denver.
This mill, which will have a capacity of 250 tons per day, will soon be ready for work. Ore is already being sampled and stored for future treatment.

Golden Cycle Mill 1906 & 1907 Issues
Considerable interest relative to the question of milling the lower grade ores was manifested during 1906. Not only have several attempts been made from time to time to operate small mills at a profit about the district, but the year 1906 found a number of the largest companies attacking the problem.
The foremost new mill enterprise was the Golden Cycle's 700-ton roasting and cyanide plant, at Colorado City, in which the refractory ore was roasted in 100-ton furnaces. Unforeseen difficulties postponed the starting of this big plant till toward the end of February, 1907, and later (July) it was destroyed by fire.
This will affect the production of the district for 1907.

Big Golden Cycle Cyanide Mill Destroyed by Fire
Denver.—A highly important events of the week were the destruction by fire of the big Golden Cycle cyanide mill, near Colorado Springs, following a terrific explosion in the roasting room. This obviously affect the mining interests. While the loss of the Golden Cycle plant will necessarily curtail the sales of Cripple Creek products for a time, since this great establishment recently completed was treating about 800 tons daily at a rate which made it the best market for custom ores, it will in no sense affect any other mining section.
But arrangements are now being made to protect the Golden Cycle contracts, by handling the material in some other plants pending the rebuilding of the company's mill, which will take from six to eight months. No mining properties have closed down as yet.
There will be no change in the rates of the American Smelting & Refining Co. and the United States Reduction & Refining Co. will continue on the same basis as before.

Golden Cycle Mill Happenings
Colorado Springs, April 3. (Special Correspondence)—During the month of March the Golden Cycle mill, which was rebuilt after the fire, treated 22,167 tons of ore from the Cripple Creek district and sampled 28,096 tons. The normal capacity of the mill will be 25,000 tons.
Eight Edwards furnaces, furnished by Chisholm, Matthew & Co. of Colorado Springs, are used for roasting the ore, and five grinders and seven Chilean mills. The company has recently installed a small Jeffrey locomotive for handling coal, which reduces the force from six men to two men.
A large percentage of the ore treated in this plant is custom ore. The plant was destroyed by fire shortly after they had started operation last fall, and it was necessary to remove several hundred tons of debris before work could be started on the new buildings. The mill was designed by P. Cazin of Denver and the construction work was under the supervision of C. W. MacArthur.
John Tait Milliken is superintendent of the mill.
