Dolly Varden Strikes
All About the Dolly Varden.
The strike in the Dolly Varden reported in The Times yesterday was fully confirmed today by a visit of a Times reporter to the mine. For some time past most of the work at the Dolly Varden has been dead work and most of the efforts of Manager F. Wright have been in the direction of putting the mine in good shape and getting ready to take out the ore which has never been a doubtful quantity.
The mine is developed by a main tunnel running east and west along the vein and is now into Raven hill a distance of 275 feet. Another tunnel eighty feet in length opens from the main tunnel to the north slope of the hill.
A shaft has been sunk 100 feet, about fifty feet north of the vein, and drifts run which will soon open into the main lead which pitches to the north. The late strike was made in the breast of the tunnel that has been following the vein and has reached to within about fifteen feet of the side line of the Morning Stars.
The depth at this point is about 100 feet. The vein averages three feet in width and assays across the entire vein showed values ranging from $14 to $95 per ton and a shipment now at Victor is expected to bring average returns of $50 per ton.
The Dolly Varden, Morning Stars, Christie, Oak and Squaw Gulch belong to the same company. Two sets of lessees are at present working on the Christie and shipping ore has been struck at a depth of fifty feet in one of the shafts.
A new hoist will be put in in a few days. The properties were never looking better than at present.

Dolly Varden Shipped Two Cars
Two Cars From the Dolly Varden
Two carloads of ore have been shipped from the Enterprise company's Dolly Varden this week. One was high grade smelting ore, and will probably average between $200 and $240 per ton. The car sent out Thursday was low grade, with a probable average of $50 per ton.
The chief work of the company at present is the cross-cut to the north under Squaw gulch at a depth of 310 feet. The breast of the drift is now 100 feet from the shaft and is already beyond the apex of the vein, but the vein dips sharply to the north and has not yet been cut. A force of only ten men is employed on the property, most of whom are working the crosscut from the Dolly Varden shaft.
