Rosemont Station/Community:

Rosemont was a Station along the Short Line route.

It was located at Milepost 22.5 coming from Colorado Springs according to info in both the book Rails Around Gold Hill and in the book Short Line To Cripple Creek. But, the distance from Colorado Springs in a August 1911 Blue Book is given to be 22.8 miles, so I assume it is linked to where they count the miles from and that changed... Same Blue Book say the distance from Cripple Creek was 29 miles.

Elevation was at 9821 feet, or at 2993,44 meter if your metric like I am. smile

The following Facilities/Structures have been reported to been at Rosemont at one time or another;

Situated in East Beaver Park, a small valley surrounded by high mountains, Rosemont was one of the more popular spots on the Short Line for summer outings. Special excursion fares were provided for those who wished to ride the morning trains to Rosemont and return on the evening train. During the early years of the railroad, special trains were occasionally operated to Rosemont from both Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek.

Attractions included picnic grounds, an athletic field/baseball diamond, a dance pavilion, which was operated intermittently on weekends; and fishing in East Beaver Creek. Several summer cottages were scattered along the hillsides bordering the valley, some of which were built prior to the time the railroad reached there.

The Summit Lunch Room along Short Line, at its so-called Summit, is part of the area I see in Jan Mackell Collins book Lost Ghost Towns of Teller County. In that book she writes about the town/community on pages 39->40, and calling it Rosemont with a undertitle of Resort to Reservoir. The community in time seems to have peaked at around 350 people and with its own school and post office.

Rosemont never got to have its planned Summer Resort with an artificial lake and large hotel, but there was a hotel, just not that planned $10,000 hotel, and there is a lake there also, a huge Reservoir!
